‘’I think art today is neither about craftsmanship nor ingenuity. As an artist, you have to be very sensitive to what’s happening in the world and know the crisis and topics we should work on. Real art should impress the soul, not just the eyes. I think great art can use props found in modern life to discuss and guide the soul. Born in 1973 in Shandong (China), Liu Bolin is part of the generation of artists born under Mao whose artistic career shortly followed the Cultural Revolution. He is internationally known for his series of photographic performances "Hiding in the City", in which the subject merges with its environment until it disappears.
Liu Bolin graduated from the Shandong Academy of Fine Arts in 1995 and the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing in 2001. He has had numerous exhibitions in Beijing, Shanghai, Seoul, New York, Paris and Bogota. His works are notably part of the collections of Princeton and Cornell Universities, the M+ Museum (Hong Kong), the Fotografiska Museet (Stockholm), Uli Sigg in Switzerland and the Neuflize, Société Générale and DSL collections in France.
