THE WORDS FROM ANNESOPHIE BÉRARD, OUR CURATOR :

Meet, Wonder, Pass on.
Born in New Zealand and based in London, photographer Todd Antony highlights little-known groups and communities that overcome life's trials in extraordinary ways. The three photographs presented here are each from a singular project.
Flyng Stars follows a group of football teams made up of victims of the civil war in Serria Leone (1991-2002). Football provides them with a space to heal from the physicial and mental scars of the war with their fellow amputees. Cholitas Escaladoras shows a group of Bolivian women who break stereotypes by reaching the summit of Mount Aconcagua in their traditional dresses. Finally, Flying Cholitas shows female luchadoras in El Alto, Bolivia practicing Luca Libre wrestling (inspired by Mexican wrestling). Far beyond simple entertainment, this group was created partly for recreation and entertainment, but also as a way for women who had suffered domestic abuse to take out their frustration and stress to impose a new place, equal to that of men.

The Caring Gallery is committed to donating 10% of the sale of this work to the partner association of the exhibition.
