THE WORDS FROM ANNESOPHIE BÉRARD, OUR CURATOR :

AN OVERHEATED WORLD

It is sometimes difficult to realise the impact that a single half degree would have on our entire planetary balance. However, the reality is staggering: a 1.5°C warmer Earth would mean a water shortage for 245 million more people. But at 2°C warmer, this would increase to 490 million people*. Similarly, about 60 million more people would be affected by severe drought if the temperature were to rise from 1.5°C to 2°C*.

The photographic series entitled Fever Dream by South African photographer Dillon Marsh takes us straight into these scenarios of anticipation. It shows a nature that is suffering from a burning fever. The retouched colours of these images reinvent a world under high temperature and manage to make the irremediable effects of global warming tangible. Behind the strange and dreamlike aspect of his works, the artist wants to sound a warning cry in the face of a future that is in serious danger of becoming uninhabitable for most living beings.
