THE WORDS FROM ANNESOPHIE BÉRARD, OUR CURATOR:

THE SCOURGE OF OVERPRODUCTION

At the European level, waste is defined as "any substance or object which the holder discards or intends or is required to discard". This qualification induces a legal status and obligations aiming at reducing the nuisance for the environment and the public health. But if "household waste" is managed by local authorities, economic activity waste is the responsibility of the original producer of this waste.
In his project Hidding in the City, initiated in 2010, the Chinese artist Liu Bolin covers himself with paint in order to conceal himself in various landscapes: disappearance becomes an act of protest. Here, he melts into an impressive pile of bicycles: these stocks have been abandoned by several startups that have gone bankrupt. The individual is literally absorbed by the consequences of a thoughtless economy, preventing the potential of valorization of his own waste.

The Caring Gallery is committed to donating 10% of the sale of this work to the partner association of the exhibition.
