Matthieu de Malte came to visual art independently after studying human and social sciences. Drawing his inspiration as much from childhood as from the representations conveyed by the commercial world, popular culture or art history, his work unfolds a direct and unadorned universe where drawings, collages and installations are mixed.
Somewhere between collective and personal testimonies, his practice plays with the mythologies of the contemporary world (walking archetypes, figures of virility, ideals of human relations, cultural identity...) by making new images, allegorical markers of our time.
His work has been presented at the Galerie du Génie de la Bastille (Paris), at the Atelier Alain Lebras (Nantes), at the Factory (Festival d'Avignon), at the MAT (Centre d'art contemporain du Pays d'Ancenis) and was selected for the final stages of the Pierre David-Weill Drawing Prize of the Académie des Beaux-arts in 2021.
