The "People Power" series selected for the Dreaming of Better Days exhibition pursues a reflection by the artist on the relationship between graphic design, pop music and popular culture. The banners were sewn and hand-painted in Ivory Coast in 2018. As in all of Damien Poulain's creations, the geometry is mastered, the lines seem rigorous but leave room for the relative asymmetry of handwork.

Hanging on the wall or ceiling, the banners come to punctuate the spaces of visual and sound vibrations. The quotations take up the lyrics of iconic songs composed in the 60s (Joan Baez, Patti Smith, John Lennon & Yoko Ono...) in support of social and political revolts in the West, especially against the Vietnam War in the United States.

These refrains have become universal and timeless, and are now part of our collective memory. They are regularly used in campaigns to raise awareness about current political and environmental issues.

The Caring Gallery is committed to donating 10% of the sale of this work to the partner association of the exhibition.
