THE WORDS FROM ANNESOPHIE BÉRARD, OUR CURATOR :

GLOBAL SOLIDARITY AS A PATH
The Antarctic Treaty, established in 1959 and now involving over 50 signatory countries, is an extraordinary case of international collaboration. Thanks to the Treaty, this "seventh continent" has remained a protected natural reserve, exclusively dedicated to research, science and peace. More than 80 scientific stations, belonging to some 30 countries and exploring many fields including biology and astronomy, are now established on this territory.

The artist couple Lucy and Jorge Orta wanted to give substance to this spirit of mutual aid and solidarity. The Antarctic Flag, installed for the first time in Antarctica in 2007, is the supranational emblem of human rights. A kaleidoscope of flags from different nations, all identities coexist in it; the edges of each unit merge to symbolise a great common identity, the hope of global citizen solidarity.

The Caring Gallery is committed to donating 10% of the sale of this work to the partner association of the exhibition.
