Fabien Mérelle was born in 1981 in Fontenay aux Roses.
He lives and works in Tours. In 2005, he received a scholarship to study at the Academy of Fine Arts in Xi'an, China. In 2006, he graduated from the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris.
He became a member of Casa Velasquez in Madrid in 2007. In 2010, he is the first winner of the Canson Prize. He entered the Beaubourg collections thanks to the Guerlain donation in 2012. He has presented his work in various solo and group exhibitions in Paris,
Madrid, Geneva, Beijing, Hong Kong, Antwerp, Los Angeles and New York.
His works, drawn in black ink, watercolour and recently sculpted, find their meaning and inspiration in a staging of his daily life, of his surroundings, at once cruel, ironic and gentle.
His drawings are the tribulations of one and the same character, always dressed in blue striped pyjamas, a blue striped pyjamas and a white teeshirt.
