In 2020, France produced more than 310,000,000 tons of waste, of which 33,500 000 tons came from household waste. These figures show that individual responsibility alone is not a sufficient solution. Nevertheless, they invite us to take an interest in our daily waste, the volume of which has increased by 13% in the context of containment and the increase in teleworking.
In her series Trash, French artist Manon Pellan places trash cans at the center of her attention. Rather than making the things that are discarded disappear, she fixes her gaze on them and conscientiously applies herself to making a case for them. The delicacy and precision of her line encourages us to contemplate the interior of these floating garbage cans haloed in white, in the manner of a still life, inevitably referring us to our own emptiness.
